Rebecca Doe (Violin)
Becky graduated from the RAM in 2001, and has since performed violin on radio and TV shows including Jules Holland, TFI Friday and The White Room. Becky has co-written string arrangements for many artists including Beth Orton, Deus, Lifehouse and Tracey Thorne, and has toured internationally with Rachel Yamagata, Ray Lamontayne, Tindersticks and My Life Story. She has recorded with a huge range of artists including Marc Almond, Mike Scott, The Pogues, Kirsty Mcall and Howard Jones, and performed at a delightful variety of concerts, weddings, and parties with string quartets.
In addition to many local orchestral concerts in Devon she currently enjoys wearing dancing shoes in her swing band Skedaddle, improvising for story telling group Kushka, and composing for piano and strings.
Sharon Hubbocks (Violin)
Sharon began violin lessons at 8yrs old with local teacher Ralph Barker. She quickly rose through the music scene winning competitions and eventually leading the Kirklees Youth Orchestra. She studied with the renowned teacher Herbert Whone of Harrogate.
Sharon performed for several years under the name ‘The Magic Bow’ and with classical guitarist John Kaye, playing at weddings, garden parties, festivals, fairs and concerts.
After moving to Devon in 2002 Sharon played with many orchestras and ensembles including The British Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, Taunton Sinfonietta and South West Sinfonietta. She also performs regularly with choral society orchestras including Plymouth Philharmonic Choir Orchestra and South Devon Choir Orchestra. She has also performed with The Copperfield Ensemble, performed Gilbert & Sullivan and undertaken session work with local artists.
In addition to the Devon-based Valentine String Quartet, Sharon plays with piano accordionist Joy Rendell playing Italian, French, Klezmer and Hungarian music.
Ben Van Weede (Viola)
Ben’s music career started with taking on his mother’s blown out harmonicas at an early age. Since graduating in music at Dartington College of Arts in 1977 Ben has worked in music theatre (on the professional stage and national radio), community arts projects, occupational therapy and instrumental tutoring.
Much of his work has obliged him to work in a number of music genres from Classical to Blues. He is currently a member of one of the country’s most in demand ceilidh bands Spinach for Norman.
Since qualifying as a teacher he has worked for Devon Music Service as a Viola/Violin teacher and now works as a Music Development Lead with schools specialising in Strings development and Music Tech.
Siri White (Cello)
Siri studied music at Goldsmiths College, London, where she became Principal Cellist for both the college’s Symphony Orchestra and the University of London Symphony Orchestra. She is a versatile cellist with music styles ranging from classical to popular and jazz. As well as cellist for the Valentine String Quartet, Siri regularly performs in the ‘cello and guitar duo, Cellotones. She has also performed in Mike Westbrook’s Big Band and recently performed at the St Ives Jazz Club. She has performed at a wide variety of venues at the Royal Albert Hall, the Royal Festival Hall and Exeter Cathedral. She has performed at a wide range of wedding venues across Devon, including Powderham Castle, Dartington Hall and Deer Park Farm, near Honiton.
